NEW COURT COMPLEX BUILDING

New Court Complex Builiding also known as Sathkacheri.

Since about 80 years the Court building was housed in a portion of the existing Sathkacheri Buildings. Obviously it was in-adequate and lacked facilities for the ever increasing number of the public. There was no shelter to the people who came to court as witnesses and litigants. It was seriously felt that new court premises is necessary for Raichur and its ever increasing population of which has reached about 12,700 in 1981. So for the first time the demand was pressed during the tenure of Mr. J. Sequera, the District and sessions Judge at Raichur. Though as early as 08-06-1965 Shri. C.S. Wodeyar had proposed and made a requisition for the courts complex building. The Government had allotted a site in sy. No. 57/1 just infront of the sath-kacheri building. The Joint inspection of Mr. Mirza Ahmed Ali Baig, the District and Session Judge Raichur. The Executive Engineer Raichur and the Deputy Commissioner, Raichur resulted in the end that the site so allotted in sy. No. 57/1 forms part of muslim grave yard as such the allotment of site was rejected.

On fresh move, by Shri Y.M.C. Sharma the District and sessions judge, Raichur the site where the new building has been housed now, was chosen in 1971. Thereafter the ceaseless efforts of Shri K.B. Navadgi, the District and sessions Judge, Raichur materialized and ultimately the foundation stone for the District court complex building was laid on 28-03-1979 at a simple but solemn ceremony by him. Undoubtedly it was a unique achievement of Shri. K.B. Navadgi, the District and Session Judge Raichur.

The present court complex building has been constructed at a cost of 3800000/- The building has been housed in a three stories facing west on Idga road leading to the Gunj Circle. The design of the building has been prepared by the Chief Architect, Bangalore in design number 4775/3 and 4775/4.

Thus the long cherished desire of the litigant people, lawyers and judges has been met by the contruction of the District Court Complex. Let us strive hard and pray Almighty God that the Judiciary serves the people in its right earnest and comes up to the aspirations of the people of Raichur District.
